Death to America brought to you by the BBC

May 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is promoting Death to America - not ACTUAL death, but a podcast series as part of their Documentary Archive, which I’ve blogged about before. I just listened to the first episode, which investigates anti-American sentiments in Latin America.

Why would you want to listen to this? Because it’s healthy to understand why people in other parts of the world hate us, whether you decide their reasons make sense or not. It’s especially healthy as this new presidential election cycle begins spinning.

Here’s the RSS feed for the BBC Documentary Archive, where you can find a list of all the current episodes.

These were two very interesting podcasts.
America has had too much influence in the devastation in other parts of the world, but the reasoning on these podcasts did not make sense to me.
The fact that Middle Easterners do not want America in their part of the world is understandable, but I don’t think we are fighting a holy war at all. Of course there is a great deal of selfish motivation behind the war. After all there is a great deal of selfish motivation behind ninety percent of humanity’s actions. (I’m being generous with that number.) I still believe that a majority of the soldiers over there only want to help. Weather they should be there is a different question…
As for South Americans one has to wonder how bad the US can be if so many of them want to get in. If America is so bad maybe they shouldn’t try to come here to play baseball or for wealth in general…
What anti-American propaganda fails to recognize is the many dollars that American taxpayers pour into economies in South America and the Middle East…
About the next election: We need a good woman on the ballot… :) :D
